Congratulations to our Men's 1 - Conference North Champions !

Shelagh Everett13 Mar - 19:21

11 points clear and three games to play, the Men's 1s have made Club history by being promoted to the 2nd tier of English hockey.

Congratulations to Head Coach Rob Turner, the Men's 1's squad and all those who've played their part in making Club history by winning Conference North of the National League and promotion to the 2nd tier of English hockey. This has been a 10+ year journey for us and one in which many many people have played their part on and off the pitch and we hope all will enjoy the moment and look forward to next season.

Undefeated all season the M1's snatched a last minute winner v Sheffield last weekend to go 11 points clear in the table, and all expectations were on completing the job this coming weekend until news crossed the Pennines to confirm that 2nd place Leeds had lost in the Yorkshire derby v Doncaster ! So it was job done as three seasons as division runners up the goal had been achieved! To say there were scenes in the club is an understatement - good things can be sublime when you're not expecting them!

We've three games to play and the target remains to stay undefeated and reach 50 points and add to our +44 goal difference and get that up to +50 too! Last year we finished 2nd on 46 points with a +65 goal difference so there's still much to do to finish the season in style!

We will be holding a proper club wide celebration on Sunday 30th March where the M1's play Doncaster at 2pm and we hope we'll have a really good turnout to mark the occasion and the presentation of the League Trophy and medals after the match. We've also some places left at the Pre Match Lunch hosted by Nick Burnett, TSC President - click here for more details and to book your place !Men's 1 v Doncaster Pre Match Lunch 30th March - full details and how to book. t/m1s-season-finale--pre-match-3-course-lunch--m1-v-doncaster-610312

A huge thanks to Rob Turner, Head Coach and GK, whose led the M1's for the last three years and set new standard, expectations and levels of professionalism through training, fitness, video analysis, analytics, match day preparation and delivery. The commitment from all the squad including the long haul from when pre-season training started in July to two 2 hour sessions a week, many miles travelled and quiet Friday or Saturday nights before a match day!

We'd also like to thank our Men's 1 sponsors J. Davidson, scrap merchants and Chews Health, and Community Sponsor, Eighteen Hockey whose financial support helps fund much of our off pitch costs including video and GPS analysis and league affiliation fees. Plus all our player and match sponsors during the season.

Our supporters have also played a key part in this and past seasons and the support from across the club and we'd also like to put on record our thanks to former M1 Head Coach, Albert Marcano, who played such an important part in our development from inconsistent mid table regional (old) North Premier team to promotion to the National league and building the platform Rob's built on.

We'd also like to thank David Halkyard who led the 1's through this journey and current captain, Connor Miller and everyone player past and current whose played their part for the M1's and our managers and off pitch support team, and all teams across the club as a strong 1st team is a reflection of a strong club and depth throughout the teams and offering hockey for all.

The jobs not done yet as we want those 50 points and to finish in the small group of undefeated National League teams for the 2024-25 season - currently out of 70 mens teams there are only Timperley and 4 others teams!

So its off to Oxton this Saturday for a 17:00 match, then next week on the 22nd March there's a tasty 18:00 trip to Ben Rhydding and then the season curtain closer v Doncaster at home 14:00 on 30th March 2025.

Join us on 30th March and let’s savour the achievement for the overall Club and hopefully we may have a few other promotions to celebrate too with the Ladies 1's still in the mix, Ladies 5 and Men's 6's.
