Important update on this weekends hockey and club opening hours !

Shelagh Everett9 Jan - 13:36

All 'home' hockey is cancelled this weekend and the clubhouse if closed until Saturday. See important update on all other hockey!

HOCKEY UPDATE FOR THIS WEEKEND

Sadly the mini heatwave (well 4C - 5C) forecast earlier in the week is now a no show ! The current maximum forecast temperature for Saturday 11th January and 2C on Sunday 12th January 2025. The is no chance of the pitches thawing and the decision has been made to cancel ALL SPORT at the club until Monday 13th January. So ALL HOME MATCHES on Saturday are OFF and Sunday Junior Training and Junior home matches are OFF. Reminder hat the pitches MUST NOT be accessed or used until declared fit.

Home Games
ALL Senior League games scheduled for Saturday will now have to be re-arranged so as soon as captains start asking for availability please update asap to assist with planning.
Ditto for Junior League / Cup games scheduled on Sunday.

Away Games
It is likely that many games across the NW will be off and the process will start to sort rearranged dates. Please DO NOT ASSUME games are off until your captain has had officially confirmed by the opposition. So keep an eye out on all our channels for updates. Same applies on updating availability for rearranged games.

Sunday Junior Training is CANCELLED

Next week and reminders !

The good news if things look much better next week with a warm front arriving and positively tropical temperatures for training of 7 - 9C! So we should be back to normal next week.

Coaches, especially junior coaches, have asked that we remind players (and especially U18's) about the importance of preparing to come to training / matches with the right kit and appropriately dressed. Layers are key, a warm coat to pop on if subbed or after games and juniors are again reminded they must have mouth guards with them and left hand gloves.

Hockey folk are made of hardly stuff but we want to keep everyone safe and avoid unnecessary injuries and players getting very cold as they have dressed for hockey in the Summer ! So don't forget to check and dig out out your kit for next week when we start back ! Please also help us reduce the amount of lost property, including sticks, by naming your kit and equipment too !

CLUBHOUSE AND BAR

With the cold snap continuing and sub zero temperatures, and based on the current weather forecast, we have had to take the decision to CLOSE the clubhouse, bar and pitches. There is extensive snow on site and ice on the drive, car parks, paths so with safety in mind we will not be re-opening the clubhouse and bar until 12 noon on Saturday 11th January 2025.

The bar and clubhouse and bar will be open from 12noon on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th January 2025 and there's plenty of sport on the TV to come down to watch including FA Cup third round matches so why not pop down for a few drinks - take care getting to the club and when on site.

Stand out games to come down to watch include:

Saturday 11th January
Liverpool v Accrington Stanley (12:15pm)
Manchester City v Salford City (5:45pm)

Sunday 12th January
Tamworth v Tottenham Hotspur (12:30pm)
Arsenal v Manchester United (3pm)

PITCHES AND SPORT AT TSC

All sport if cancelled throughout the weekend. The current maximum current temperature on Saturday is forecast as 1C and 2C on Sunday which will not be high enough to thaw the frozen playing surfaces. With a warm front due from Monday we are hoping the pitches will be playable again from Monday 13th January. So sadly there will be NO SPORT this weekend on site.

Members are reminded that the pitches (GRASS and APT's) have been declared unfit and unsafe and must not be accessed or used in any circumstances. The grass is particularly susceptible to damage if played on when in these conditions and when thawing and our priority is to protect the playing surfaces for when we do start playing again and ensure they aren't damaged that may impact if we can play on them. So as tempting a it may be please stay off the grass and do not enter the ATP's.

Take care on the roads and when out and about and we hope things will be back to normal next week with the weather forecast, sport back on at the club and the bar and clubhouse fully open.
